Driver Detained After Crashing Into Crowd at Đà Lạt Bus Station
Drunk Driver Causes Chaos at Xuân Hương Bus Terminal
The usually bustling area around Đà Lạt's inter-provincial bus station erupted into panic yesterday afternoon when a drunk driver deliberately crashed his car into a crowd of people near the Anh Phát gas station.
Trần Văn Quốc, a 26-year-old resident of Lâm Viên Ward, has been detained by Lâm Đồng Provincial Police on charges of "causing public disorder," according to Major General Trương Minh Đương, Director of Lâm Đồng Provincial Police.
The incident unfolded around 3 PM on February 25th at the gas station located at 1 Tô Hiến Thành Street in Xuân Hương Ward - a spot well-known to locals as the heart of the bus terminal area where passengers gather and vendors sell their goods.
Personal Dispute Escalates to Violence
According to Tuổi Trẻ, the chaos began with a personal altercation between Quốc and 43-year-old Huỳnh Duy Minh, also from Xuân Hương Ward. Despite attempts by bystanders to calm the situation, Quốc became increasingly agitated and began driving his car (license plate 49H-035.xx) in circles around the busy terminal area.
The situation took a dangerous turn when Quốc, under the influence of alcohol, suddenly accelerated his vehicle directly into the crowded area in front of the gas station. Multiple people suffered scrapes and soft tissue injuries as they scrambled to escape the oncoming vehicle.
"The incident caused many people to panic, traffic in the area became congested, and public security was seriously affected," police reported.
Swift Police Response
Quốc briefly fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by authorities and brought to Xuân Hương Ward Police Station. A breathalyzer test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.238mg/l, while drug tests came back negative.
For those familiar with this area of Đà Lạt, the bus terminal zone is always crowded with travelers, local vendors, and residents going about their daily business. The reckless act disrupted one of the city's most important transportation hubs and put countless innocent people at risk.
Police are now proceeding with formal charges and prosecution procedures against Quốc for his dangerous actions.
