Đà Lạt Teen Sensation
In a stunning upset, 16-year-old Đỗ Lê Vân Chi from Đà Lạt has defeated Japanese table tennis star Karin Hanazawa at a recent WTT Youth Contender tournament.
According to Tuổi Trẻ, this victory is a significant milestone for the young athlete, who is still relatively unknown in the Vietnamese table tennis scene. Vân Chi's win over Hanazawa, who was once ranked 481 in the world at just 13 years old, is a testament to her skill and dedication. As a local, it's exciting to see young talent from Đà Lạt making waves in the sports world.
Vân Chi and her 15-year-old sister Vân Linh have been training hard, and their efforts have paid off. The sisters were part of a group of young players sent to the US for training by the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation in 2024. During their time in the US, they won the doubles title at the 2024 US Open Table Tennis Championships in Las Vegas.
This achievement is not only a proud moment for Vân Chi and her family but also for the Đà Lạt community. As we walk along the streets of Đà Lạt, it's not uncommon to see young people playing table tennis at local parks and recreation centers.
The sport is deeply ingrained in our culture, and it's wonderful to see the next generation of players emerging. Vân Chi's victory is an inspiration to us all, and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow and succeed in the world of table tennis.
