A Crucial Step to Save Lake Xuân Hương

The city of Đà Lạt has approved a major investment of 48 billion VND to address the growing pollution and siltation issues at Hồ Lắng 2, a critical reservoir that feeds into the iconic Hồ Xuân Hương. This project, which will be carried out between 2026 and 2028, is part of a broader effort to protect one of Đà Lạt’s most beloved natural landmarks and improve the city’s urban environment.

According to local authorities, Hồ Lắng 2, located near the intersection of Trần Quốc Toản, Nguyên Tử Lực, and Trạng Trình streets, has become severely clogged with sediment and waste. The area is currently dry, with vegetation and debris covering parts of the reservoir. In some spots, foul-smelling water flows directly into the lake, creating visible white foam and raising concerns about the health of Hồ Xuân Hương.

‘This is a vital step in preserving our city’s natural beauty and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Hồ Xuân Hương,’ said a local environmental official, who requested anonymity. The project includes dredging 1 hectare of the reservoir, constructing a surrounding embankment, and building 400 meters of lakeside road. It also involves upgrading drainage systems in nearby residential areas and installing lighting and railings.

For residents of Đà Lạt, Hồ Xuân Hương is more than just a scenic spot—it’s a symbol of the city’s identity. Located in the heart of the city, the lake is a popular gathering place for locals and a key attraction for tourists. The new initiative is expected to not only improve water quality but also reduce the risk of flooding in the lower areas of the city during heavy rains.
