A Quiet Boom in Đà Lạt's Tourism
Despite impressive numbers showing a surge in visitors, many who have visited Đà Lạt in recent weeks say they haven’t felt the usual chaos. According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lâm Đồng province, Đà Lạt welcomed nearly 1 million visitors from April 25 to May 3, including around 35,000 international tourists, generating over 2,100 billion VND in revenue. This is a significant increase compared to previous years, but locals and regular visitors are noticing a different atmosphere.
"I’ve come to stay with friends every major holiday in Đà Lạt, and I always keep an eye on the traffic and service conditions," said Du khách Hoàng Minh Hải from Ho Chi Minh City. "In past years, I’ve seen long lines, crowded streets, and overwhelmed services. This year, though the numbers are up, I don’t see the same level of congestion."
A Shift in Travel Behavior
The change in perception may be due to a shift in how people are traveling. This year, many visitors are opting for more relaxed itineraries, staying longer and avoiding peak hours. According to Deputy Director Khúc Thị Thoi of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Đà Lạt, along with Phan Thiết and Gia Nghĩa, has seen a notable increase in visitors and revenue. However, the city has managed to avoid the usual overcrowding that has characterized previous high seasons.
"This year has been a relief for Đà Lạt as the tourist city has not fallen into the usual state of overcrowding and chaos," said Thoi. "Many visitors have commented that this year they are traveling for enjoyment, not for exhaustion."
A More Sustainable Tourism Model
The local community is also noticing the benefits of this more balanced approach. With fewer crowds and more spread-out visitation, local businesses have been able to maintain quality service without the usual stress of peak season. This shift may signal a more sustainable model for tourism in Đà Lạt, where visitors can enjoy the city’s beauty without the overwhelming pressure of overcrowding.
As Đà Lạt continues to grow as a destination, the city’s ability to manage its tourism without sacrificing the visitor experience is a welcome change for both locals and tourists alike.
