As Liên Khương Airport closes its doors for a comprehensive upgrade from March 4 to August 25, Đà Lạt is pulling out all the stops to ensure visitors still feel the city's legendary hospitality. According to Tuổi Trẻ, local officials are transforming this temporary setback into an opportunity to showcase what makes our mountain city truly special.
"We will welcome guests with all our hospitality and continuously work to improve service quality," shared Đặng Đức Hiệp, Party Secretary of Xuân Hương Ward, the heart of old Đà Lạt. His words capture the spirit that longtime residents know well - when challenges arise, Đà Lạt responds with grace and determination.
Traffic Management Gets Creative
The airport closure means approximately one million high-spending tourists will need alternative routes to reach our beloved city. This shift brings both challenges and opportunities, as the influx of personal vehicles and tour buses creates unprecedented traffic pressure on our winding mountain roads.
Local authorities have implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan that locals will notice immediately. According to the Lâm Đồng Department of Construction, buses with more than 29 seats are now banned from the bustling Hòa Bình area and narrow streets like Phan Bội Châu and Nguyễn Văn Trỗi - routes every Đà Lạt resident knows can become bottlenecks during peak season.
Police Become Tourism Ambassadors
Perhaps most notably, our traffic police are taking on an expanded role as friendly guides. "Each police officer will serve as a friendly guide to help tourists have the highest quality journey," Hiệp explained. This transformation of law enforcement into tourism ambassadors reflects Đà Lạt's commitment to hospitality that goes beyond mere politeness.
Twenty-two new signs now restrict trucks over 1.5 tons from key routes including Hà Huy Tập, Hồ Tùng Mậu, Trần Quốc Toản, and the precious area around Xuân Hương Lake during peak hours: morning (6-8 AM), midday (10 AM-12 PM), and evening (4-6 PM).
