I came here for language practice.
Then a burrito became my primary language.
I was halfway through a careful introduction
With a sentence needing major reconstruction
Then tofu, mushroom, special sauce arrived
And every single grammar rule resigned
The cook had wrapped a diplomatic mission
In something better than my pronunciation
I tried to say delicious with sophistication
My mouth submitted only exclamation
The burrito has better grammar than me
It's holding everything together perfectly
My verbs fall out, my tenses flee
That little wrap has structural integrity
Oh tofu, oh mushroom, oh mystery sauce
My train of thought has suffered total loss
I came to find the perfect thing to say
The burrito took my words away!
Someone asked a thoughtful question at the table
I nodded like a scholar, very stable
Inside my mind a tiny man in shoes
Was yelling: don't let any filling loose!
Is this a noun? Is that a preposition?
The sauce has seized executive position
The menu offered one vegetarian choice
It somehow won my undivided voice
The burrito has better grammar than me
It's holding everything together perfectly
My verbs fall out, my tenses flee
That little wrap has structural integrity
Oh tofu, oh mushroom, oh mystery sauce
My train of thought has suffered total loss
I came to find the perfect thing to say
The burrito took my words away!
I stopped composing how I might impress
And noticed I was happy, nothing less
A little food, a face, a shared surprise
Sometimes being present tastes quite nice
Compliments to the cook, sincerely meant
My gratitude requires no accent
I learned ngon qua, then said it once again
A useful phrase has finally hit my brain
Ngon qua! Delicious! That one's going home
My notebook smells like sauce, my cover's blown
If learning needs a reason to repeat
Please put this lesson back upon my plate
The burrito has better grammar than me
But now we're both in excellent company
My verbs come back, my shyness flees
Thank you to the kitchen, take a bow from me
Everybody clap for the special sauce
The answer to the question of the day?
Ngon qua! That's all I have to say!
