Frequently Asked Questions
How much do strawberries cost at Da Lat farms during peak season?
During peak season (March-April), expect to pay 80,000-120,000 VND per kilogram for standard red strawberries picked yourself. Premium varieties like Japanese White Pearl can cost 150,000-200,000 VND per kilogram. Farm-gate prices are typically 20-30% lower than city markets, making pick-your-own experiences both fun and economical.
What's the best time of day to visit strawberry farms?
The optimal time is between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM when temperatures are coolest and berries are at their firmest and sweetest. Many farms offer special dawn tours starting at 5:30 AM. Avoid midday visits (10 AM - 2 PM) as the sun makes berries soft and less flavorful, plus the mountain sun can be intense for picking activities.
Do I need to book strawberry farm tours in advance?
Yes, especially during peak season (March-April) and weekends. Popular farms like Suoi Vang and Van Thanh Organic require 2-3 days advance booking. During Tet holiday and Da Lat Flower Festival periods, book at least one week ahead. Some smaller family farms accept walk-ins, but calling ahead ensures availability and better service.
Can children participate in strawberry picking activities?
Absolutely! Strawberry picking is perfect for families with children aged 5 and up. Most farms provide child-friendly picking tools and have shorter rows suitable for kids. Family packages often include educational components about highland farming. Ensure children wear sun protection and comfortable shoes, as farm terrain can be uneven.
What should I do with strawberries after picking them?
Eat fresh strawberries within 2-3 days for best flavor. Store unwashed berries in the refrigerator in a single layer. Many farms offer on-site processing into jams or dried fruit. Some provide shipping services to send berries to other Vietnamese cities. Don't wash berries until ready to eat, as moisture accelerates spoilage in the highland climate.
