A devastating incident occurred at the former residence of Dr.
Sohier, now known as Số 1 Yersin, in Đà Lạt. According to reports, seven patients lost their lives due to asphyxiation in one of the rooms. The house, built in 1935 by French doctor Lemoine and later converted into a clinic by Dr.
Sohier in 1951, has a unique architectural feature - small windows resembling a cat's eye, known as 'oeil de chat' in French. These small openings were intended to provide ventilation, but on a fateful night, they proved insufficient, leading to the tragic loss of life. As a local, it's heartbreaking to think that such a beautiful and historic building, once a symbol of French colonial architecture in our city, was the site of such a horrific event.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring proper ventilation and safety measures in our buildings, especially in healthcare facilities. The people of Đà Lạt are still reeling from the news, and our thoughts are with the families of the victims.
