Lâm Đồng Agrees to Continue Nha Trang-Đà Lạt Expressway Investment
Major Boost for Highland-Coastal Connection
Lâm Đồng Province has officially agreed to continue investing in the ambitious Nha Trang-Đà Lạt expressway project, according to Tuổi Trẻ sources on March 23rd. This decision marks a significant step forward for what could be a game-changing transportation link between our mountain city and the coastal resort of Nha Trang.
For those of us living in Đà Lạt, the current journey to Nha Trang via National Highway 27C is a familiar but challenging experience. The winding 30-kilometer stretch through Khánh Lê Pass, with its treacherous curves and steep gradients, typically requires 3.5 to 4 hours of careful driving. The proposed expressway could cut this travel time to just 1.5-2 hours - a remarkable improvement that would transform how we connect with the coast.
Project Details and Timeline
According to the provincial proposal, the expressway would span 80.8 kilometers from Nha Trang to Đà Lạt, with construction planned before 2030. The route would start at the intersection with the North-South Expressway East in Diên Thọ commune, Khánh Hòa, and terminate at Đarahoa junction in our city.
The technical specifications are impressive: a 4-lane highway with a 22-24.75 meter roadway width, designed for speeds of 80-100 km/h. The preliminary investment is estimated at 25.058 trillion VND - a substantial commitment that reflects the project's strategic importance.
Local Impact and Opportunities
For Đà Lạt residents, this expressway represents far more than just faster travel times. The improved connectivity is expected to boost tourism, logistics, and freight transport between our highland region and the coastal areas. This could mean more visitors discovering our coffee plantations, flower gardens, and cool mountain air, while also making it easier for our agricultural products to reach coastal markets.
Both Lâm Đồng and Khánh Hòa provinces have requested government approval for a public-private partnership (PPP) model with state capital participation. The Son Hai Group has already expressed interest in investing through a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract.
This expressway could fundamentally change how Đà Lạt connects with the wider region, bringing new opportunities while preserving what makes our mountain city special.
