Cầu Đất Đà Lạt Wins Top Prize in National Arabica Coffee Competition
A Taste of Excellence from Cầu Đất
In a moment that filled the air with the rich aroma of Arabica coffee, farmers from Cầu Đất, Đà Lạt, once again proved their skill and dedication. On April 23, at Đà Lạt University, the 12th UCC Group Vietnam Arabica Coffee Selection Competition took place, drawing participants from across the country and beyond. The event, organized by UCC Vietnam, Là Việt Coffee Company, and Đà Lạt University, with the support of the UCC Group from Japan, celebrated the best of Vietnamese Arabica coffee.
Lê Văn Tý, a farmer from Cầu Đất in Xuân Trường commune, Đà Lạt, claimed the top prize with his sample scoring an impressive 81.29 points out of 100, according to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) standards. This victory was not just a personal triumph for Tý, but a testament to the quality of coffee grown in Đà Lạt’s high-altitude region, where the cool climate and fertile soil create ideal conditions for Arabica.
According to Ông Nakahira, Director of the Agricultural Department at UCC Japan, the competition has been running since 2013, with the goal of promoting sustainable farming practices and sharing knowledge on processing and quality evaluation. This year’s competition saw a close race among the top contenders, with only small differences in scores, showing the high level of quality across the board.
The winning samples will be used by UCC Group for production and distribution in Japan, highlighting the growing international appreciation for Vietnamese Arabica. For locals, this win is a source of pride and a reminder of the deep connection between Đà Lạt’s landscape and its legendary coffee culture. As the sun sets over the city, the scent of freshly brewed Arabica from Cầu Đất continues to echo through the streets of Đà Lạt, a symbol of excellence and tradition.
